El Segundo is a charming small town, that is divided by Sepulveda Blvd into an East and West part of town - each of which has it's own unique personality.
To the west of Sepulveda is primarily residential and also sports a charming, time-preserved walkable downtown area with shops and restaurants for local residents. It's a great place to live and if you're looking to live close to the beach on a budget, you can't beat it in terms of price compared with other nearby beach communities. Most residents love living here, and it has a close knit community vibe. The drawback, however, is that you've got LAX just to the north, the LA DWP electric plant separating the town from the beach, and several large industrial plants including a large Chevron refinery.
To the east of Sepulveda is the commercial and industrial part of town. Historically known for being home to many aerospace companies, it is also home to Mattel Toys, Rhythm and Hues, and more recently several internet and media companies are calling El Segundo home as well.
