The southernmost of the three beach cities, and by far the largest, Redondo Beach is geographically made up of two halves connected by a small strip of land, and is perhaps best described in that context.
North Redondo Beach is actually located inland of Manhattan Beach, and is made up of four neighborhoods. Much of this area was originally developed post war for the nearby thriving aerospace industry. In more recent times, many of the original homes have since been rebuilt, and now the inventory is a mix between smaller post war single family homes and "two on a lot" or "three on a lot" townhomes - condos from a legal standpoint, but often built completely separately without even as much as a shared wall. This area is often called "The Gateway to the South Bay" because the prices here are generally more affordable than anywhere else in the beach cities while still being a part of Redondo. People often buy here as part of a greater plan to move up to other parts of the south bay when they can afford it. Another great part of this area, is that while still being minutes from the beach, it also offers easier access to the highways than other parts of the South Bay. Lots of families call this area home.
South Redondo Beach is the part of Redondo closest to the beach and all the shops and restaurants nearby. It's made up of four neighborhoods, and the homes here are a mix of smaller 6-8 unit condo complexes, 2 or 3 on a lot townhomes, and then along the famous Esplanade you'll find several larger 6 story condominium buildings.
